Get full-size hydraulic splitting performance without a gasoline engine with the RamSplitter HV20-4 20-Ton Electric Log Splitter. Powered by a high-torque 2 HP Leeson electric motor, the HV20-4 delivers up to 20 tons of splitting force while eliminating gasoline, exhaust fumes, carburetor maintenance, and engine oil changes associated with gas-powered splitters.

The HV20-4 operates in both horizontal and vertical positions, allowing you to split standard firewood at a comfortable working height or rotate the beam vertically and roll heavy rounds into position instead of lifting them.

A 4" × 24" hydraulic cylinder, 11 GPM two-stage pump, and auto-return control valve provide dependable hydraulic performance with a published 15–17 second cycle time. Built in the USA and weighing approximately 450 lbs., the HV20-4 is a serious electric splitter for homeowners, farms, rural properties, and anyone processing substantial amounts of firewood.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 20 Tons of Splitting Force
Produces up to approximately 40,000 lbs. of hydraulic splitting force for demanding firewood applications.

  • 2 HP Leeson Electric Motor
High-torque electric power eliminates gasoline, exhaust fumes, carburetor service, and many of the maintenance requirements associated with gas engines.

  • Horizontal & Vertical Operation
Split ordinary rounds horizontally or switch to vertical operation for large, heavy logs that are difficult to lift.

  • 26" Maximum Log Opening
Accommodates firewood up to approximately 26 inches long.

  • 4" × 24" Hydraulic Cylinder
Heavy-duty cylinder provides the force and stroke required for the 20-ton configuration.

  • 11 GPM Two-Stage Hydraulic Pump
Two-stage design combines faster low-load cylinder movement with high-pressure splitting capability.

  • 15–17 Second Cycle Time
Provides consistent hydraulic cycling for residential and property firewood production.

  • Auto-Return Control Valve
Detent return allows the cylinder to retract automatically while you prepare the next log.

  • 8" Splitting Wedge
Tall fixed wedge provides a substantial splitting surface for a wide variety of firewood.

  • 29" Horizontal Working Height
Keeps the splitting beam at a practical working height during horizontal operation.

  • 5-Gallon Hydraulic Reservoir
Integrated tank supplies the hydraulic system without requiring an external reservoir.

  • Made in the USA
Built in the United States with heavy-duty construction for serious firewood processing.

Full-Size Splitting Power Without a Gas Engine

The HV20-4 is designed for users who want the capabilities of a traditional full-size hydraulic splitter but prefer electric power.

There is no need to:

  • Store gasoline
  • Clean a carburetor
  • Change gasoline-engine oil
  • Maintain a fuel system
  • Deal with engine exhaust while splitting

The electric motor also provides instant power without the starting procedures associated with a gasoline engine.

Important Electrical Requirement

The HV20-4 operates from a 110VAC electrical supply and requires a dedicated 25-amp circuit.

This is important because many ordinary household circuits are rated for only 15 or 20 amps.

Before purchasing, verify that the intended operating location has an electrical circuit capable of meeting the splitter's requirements. Any outlet, wiring, breaker, extension equipment, and electrical installation should be properly rated for the load.

Horizontal & Vertical Splitting

Horizontal Mode

Horizontal operation keeps logs on the beam at approximately 29 inches working height, making it ideal for typical firewood rounds that can be comfortably lifted onto the machine.

Vertical Mode

For larger or heavier rounds, rotate the splitter into its vertical operating position and roll the log into place at ground level.

This can significantly reduce the lifting required when processing large hardwood rounds.

Two-Stage Hydraulic System

The HV20-4 uses an 11 GPM two-stage hydraulic pump.

During portions of the stroke that require less pressure, the pump provides higher hydraulic flow for faster cylinder movement. When the wedge encounters greater resistance, the pump transitions to its high-pressure stage to provide the force needed to complete the split.

This combination provides a balance between cycle speed and splitting power.

Heavy-Duty Beam & Wedge

The splitter is constructed around a heavy-duty 2" × 5" tubular beam with a 5-inch top plate.

The splitting system includes an 8-inch fixed wedge designed for conventional two-way splitting.

For users who want to produce smaller firewood in fewer passes, an optional 4-way wedge is available separately.

Optional 4-Way Wedge

An optional slip-on 4-way wedge allows compatible rounds to be divided into four pieces during a single splitting stroke.

When installed, the 4-way wedge reduces the available log opening by approximately 2 inches.

The 4-way wedge is sold separately.

Optional Log Cradles

Optional log cradles can be installed along the beam to help catch split pieces as they fall away from the wedge.

This can reduce the amount of bending required to pick pieces back up from the ground during repetitive splitting.

Log cradles are sold separately.

Towing & Transport

The HV20-4 includes:

  • 2" ball coupler
  • Safety chains
  • 4.80 × 8 tires

The splitter is designed with towing capability for transport between work areas. Always verify applicable towing regulations, speed limitations, lighting requirements, tire ratings, and local road laws before transporting the splitter on public roads.

Ideal Applications

The RamSplitter HV20-4 is well suited for:

  • Residential firewood production
  • Wood-stove heating
  • Farms and ranches
  • Rural properties
  • Large seasonal firewood piles
  • Hardwood splitting
  • Home workshops
  • Users who prefer electric equipment
  • Areas where gasoline-engine maintenance is undesirable

Electric vs. Gas Log Splitter

The HV20-4 is particularly attractive for users who want substantial splitting capacity without maintaining a gasoline engine.

Electric Advantages

  • No gasoline storage
  • No carburetor
  • No engine exhaust
  • No pull starting
  • Reduced engine-related maintenance
  • Immediate electric motor operation
  • Quieter power source than a typical gas engine

The tradeoff is that the splitter must remain within reach of a properly rated 110V, 25-amp electrical supply.
