Hydraulic Log Splitter Valve – 25 GPM, 3,500 PSI, Adjustable Detent & Auto-Return A7
Open-Center Design • Adjustable Kick-Out Pressure • Common Log Splitter Replacement Valve

The WSD31-284 A7 Hydraulic Log Splitter Valve is a heavy-duty replacement control valve designed for many common gas-powered hydraulic log splitters. Rated for flow rates up to 25 GPM and pressures up to 3,500 PSI, this single-spool, open-center valve provides dependable cylinder control with an automatic return detent.
This is the valve configuration commonly found on many SpeeCo, Huskee, MTD, Brave, Swisher, and other log splitters. The extend position is manually controlled, while the retract position locks into detent and automatically releases when the cylinder completes its return stroke.
Unlike many fixed-detent replacement valves, the A7 features a threaded, adjustable detent end cap. This allows the operator to fine-tune the kick-out pressure and compensate for normal wear in the detent balls and grooves, potentially extending the valve’s useful service life.
Important fitment note: This valve is not universal. Compare the port locations, thread sizes, flow requirements, and hydraulic schematic with the original valve before ordering. The similar C5 valve uses the opposite inlet and outlet port orientation.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Up to 25 GPM Flow Capacity
Supports the hydraulic flow requirements of many residential and commercial log splitters. -
3,500 PSI Maximum Pressure Rating
Built for demanding hydraulic splitting applications. -
Automatic Return Detent
Holds the valve in the retract position and automatically returns the control handle to neutral when the cylinder completes its return stroke. -
Adjustable Detent Pressure
Factory set at approximately 700 PSI and adjustable to match the hydraulic system and compensate for detent wear. -
Adjustable Relief Valve
Factory relief setting is approximately 3,100 PSI and can be adjusted when required by the hydraulic system. -
Threaded Detent End Cap
Provides easier access for detent adjustment and routine service. -
Single-Spool Control
Provides straightforward extend, neutral, and automatic-return operation. -
Open-Center Hydraulic Design
Allows hydraulic oil to circulate through the valve while the control is in the neutral position. -
Common Replacement Configuration
Used on many SpeeCo, Huskee, MTD, Brave, Swisher, and similar log splitter systems. -
Durable Replacement Option
Designed to replace worn, leaking, sticking, or malfunctioning splitter control valves with matching specifications.

A7 vs. C5 Valve Orientation
The A7 and C5 valves are similar in operation and specifications, but the inlet and outlet ports are located on opposite sides. Before ordering, compare the hydraulic schematic and port orientation with the existing valve.
Important Compatibility Information
Confirm all of the following before installation:
- Inlet and outlet port orientation
- NPT port sizes
- Open-center hydraulic configuration
- System flow rate
- Maximum operating pressure
- Cylinder hose routing
- Valve schematic and handle orientation
Installation and pressure adjustments should be completed by someone familiar with hydraulic systems. Incorrect installation or excessive pressure settings may damage the pump, cylinder, hoses, valve, or other hydraulic components.
NOTE: Most products require at least some assembly.
