Splits Logs into Four Pieces • Slip-On Installation • High-Grade Steel • Horizontal Use Only
Reduce the number of splitting passes needed to process larger firewood rounds with the Swisher 18840 4-Way Wedge. Designed for current Swisher-branded 22-, 28- and 34-ton log splitters, this accessory slides over the machine’s existing factory wedge and divides a log into four pieces during one splitting stroke.
The slip-on design requires no permanent modification to the splitter and makes it easy to remove the attachment when standard two-way splitting is more suitable. Swisher manufactures the wedge from high-grade steel for demanding residential firewood applications.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Four-Way Splitting
Splits compatible logs into four sections during one stroke, helping reduce repeated handling and splitting. -
Fits Current Swisher Splitters
Designed for current Swisher-branded 22-, 28- and 34-ton log splitters. -
Simple Slip-On Installation
Slides directly over the top of the factory-installed splitting wedge. -
No Permanent Modification Required
Remove the attachment when smaller logs or difficult wood are better handled with the standard wedge. -
High-Grade Steel Construction
Built for strength and durability during residential firewood processing. -
Made in the USA
Manufactured in the United States using domestic and globally sourced components. -
One-Year Residential Warranty
Covered against qualifying defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the original purchase date.
Designed for Larger Logs
The Swisher 4-Way Wedge is most useful when splitting larger rounds that would normally require multiple passes to reach the desired firewood size. The added horizontal wings create a second split as the log moves through the factory wedge.
For smaller logs that require only one standard split, removing the four-way attachment may provide better results and reduce unnecessary resistance on the hydraulic system.
Easy Slip-On Installation
Installation does not require complicated mounting hardware:
- Shut down the log splitter.
- Allow all moving components to stop.
- Disconnect the spark-plug wire as directed in the splitter manual.
- Carefully lift the attachment.
- Slide it fully over the top of the factory wedge.
- Confirm that it is completely seated before operation.
The wedge is heavy and can cause injury if dropped. Keep hands, feet and other body parts clear of the attachment and all pinch points during installation and removal.
Compatible Log Splitters
Swisher currently lists the 18840 wedge for:
- Swisher 22-ton log splitters
- Swisher 28-ton log splitters
- Swisher 34-ton log splitters
Swisher states that this attachment has not been tested on other brands of log splitters. Compatibility should not be assumed based only on tonnage, beam size or wedge appearance.

Important Operating Information
The 18840 wedge must be used only while the log splitter is in the horizontal splitting position. It is not intended for vertical operation.
Swisher specifies a maximum log length of:
- 24 inches with the 4-way wedge installed
- 25-1/2 inches without the 4-way wedge
Both ends of the log should be cut as squarely as possible to reduce the chance of the wood sliding or being forced out of the splitting area.
Important Compatibility Notice
This attachment is not universal. Before ordering, confirm:
- The splitter is a Swisher-branded model
- The splitter is a current compatible 22-, 28- or 34-ton configuration
- The factory wedge accepts the slip-over design
- The machine does not have permanent log strippers or other components that interfere with the attachment
- The splitter can be operated in the required horizontal position
Swisher’s manual contains broader compatibility language but excludes machines with permanent log strippers or other interfering features. Contacting Swisher with the splitter’s model and serial number is the safest way to confirm fitment.
NOTE: Most products require at least some assembly.
