Yardbeast 2050 3-Inch Wood Chipper Shredder with 9.5 HP Kohler Engine - 2050KOH
Turn branches, leaves, shrub trimmings, and other suitable yard debris into useful mulch with the heavy-duty Yardbeast 2050 Wood Chipper Shredder.
The 2050 combines a true 3-inch branch capacity with a dedicated upper shredding hopper for leaves and twigs up to 5/8 inch. Its 36-pound rotor uses two heat-treated cutting blades and ten Fullshred flails to chip, cut, and pulverize material efficiently.
Power comes from a professional-grade 277cc Kohler Command PRO CH395 engine producing 9.5 horsepower and 13.9 ft-lb of torque.

Dual-Feed Chipping and Shredding
Side Chipping Hopper
The dedicated side hopper accepts branches up to 3 inches in diameter. Its wide opening accommodates many irregularly shaped limbs and reduces the amount of pruning required before processing.
Upper Shredding Hopper
The large upper hopper is designed for loose leaves, shrub trimmings, garden debris, and twigs up to approximately 5/8 inch in diameter.
Keeping the two feed systems separate allows the chipper blades to concentrate on larger branches while the Fullshred flails process lighter and more fibrous material.
Kohler Command PRO Power
The Yardbeast 2050 is powered by a Kohler CH395 Command PRO gasoline engine.
Engine features include:
- 277cc displacement
- 9.5 horsepower
- 13.9 ft-lb gross torque
- Manual recoil starting
- Low-oil shutdown protection
- Quad-Clean cyclonic air filtration
- Cast-iron cylinder liner
- Large-capacity fuel tank
- Air-cooled, single-cylinder design
- Maximum operating speed of 3,600 RPM
- CARB-compliant configuration
Heavy-Duty Chipping Rotor
At the center of the Yardbeast 2050 is a 36-pound rotor containing:
- Two heat-treated steel chipper blades
- Ten Fullshred flails
- Heavy 1/4-inch rotor disc
- 1/4-inch rotor vanes
- Hardened hammer rods
- Approximately 13-inch flywheel
The dual blades cut larger branches while the flails help break apart leaves, green material, and smaller woody debris.
Average 11:1 Reduction Ratio
Yardbeast rates the 2050 for an average reduction ratio of approximately 11:1. This means that approximately eleven containers of suitable loose yard debris may be reduced to about one container of processed material.
Actual reduction will depend on the type, moisture content, and density of the material being processed.
Interchangeable Discharge Screens
The Yardbeast 2050 includes a standard screen with 7/8-inch-diameter holes. This screen helps produce versatile, compostable chips and shredded material.
Other screen sizes and patterns are available from Yardbeast for specialized applications. Screen selection affects output size and the speed at which material exits the machine.
The optional oval-pattern screen is recommended by Yardbeast when processing suitable cardboard.
Heavy-Duty Centrifugal Clutch
A heavy-duty centrifugal clutch transfers engine power to the rotor. The clutch begins engaging at approximately 1,800 RPM, allowing the engine to start without immediately turning the cutting system under full load.
It also helps protect the engine from sudden shock loads and chipping stalls.
Cart-Style Mobility
The 2050 is mounted on a heavy-duty steel frame with two 10-inch pneumatic tires. The machine can be tilted and moved by hand around relatively level residential or commercial properties.
This is not a highway-towable wood chipper and should not be pulled behind a road vehicle.

Processing Different Materials
Leaves
Feed loose leaves through the upper shredding hopper. Leaves that are relatively dry generally flow more easily and are less likely to clog the screen.
Branches with Leaves
The 2050 can process green or dry branches with leaves still attached. Branches larger than 5/8 inch should be directed through the side chipping hopper.
Branches Without Leaves
The side hopper handles green, dry, or resinous branches up to the machine’s rated 3-inch capacity. Actual performance depends on wood species, moisture, knots, and branch shape.
Cardboard
Yardbeast states that the 2050 can shred suitable cardboard when equipped with the recommended oval-pattern screen. Remove tape, staples, plastic, and other foreign material first.

Important Operating Guidance
Maximum branch capacity varies with wood species, moisture, knots, branch shape, and condition. Hard, dry, forked, or heavily knotted branches may need to be smaller than 3 inches.
Do not feed rocks, metal, glass, plastic, lumber, soil-covered roots, pressure-treated wood, or other foreign material into the chipper.
Wear eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, sturdy footwear, and close-fitting clothing. Never reach into either hopper or the discharge opening.
Before clearing a blockage, changing a screen, or servicing the rotor:
- Shut off the engine.
- Wait for all moving parts to stop completely.
- Disconnect the spark-plug wire.
- Follow the lockout and service instructions in the operator’s manual.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the largest branch the Yardbeast 2050 can chip?
The rated maximum capacity is 3 inches in diameter. Hardwoods, dry wood, knots, forks, and irregular branches may reduce the practical capacity.
What is the shredding capacity?
The upper hopper can process leaves, shrub trimmings, and twigs up to approximately 5/8 inch in diameter.
How many flails does the current 2050 use?
The current Yardbeast brochure specifies ten Fullshred flails.
What reduction ratio does it provide?
Yardbeast rates the 2050 for an average reduction ratio of approximately 11:1. Results vary according to the material being processed.
Is it self-feeding?
The 2050 is gravity-fed. The rotor may help draw properly prepared branches into the side hopper, but the machine does not have a powered hydraulic feed system.
Can it shred wet leaves?
It can process green material, but excessively wet leaves may clump and clog the discharge screen. Mixing damp material with drier branches and leaves can improve flow.
Can it shred cardboard?
Yardbeast states that suitable cardboard can be shredded using its optional oval-pattern screen. All tape, staples, plastic, and other foreign material must be removed first.
Can I adjust the finished material size?
The installed screen influences finished material size. The standard machine includes a 7/8-inch round-hole screen, while other patterns are available separately.
Does it have electric start?
No. The Kohler CH395 engine uses a manual recoil starter.
Is it highway towable?
No. The wheels are intended for moving the machine by hand around a property.
Does it arrive assembled?
Some assembly is required. The necessary tools must be supplied by the owner.
Is engine oil included?
Check the engine oil level before starting and add the oil specified in the Kohler manual if required. Never assume a newly delivered engine contains operating oil.
NOTE: Most products require at least some assembly.
