DHT 100158 – Pump, 2 Stage, 13 GPM

The original Dirty Hand Tools parts manual lists pump 100158 in the pump and engine assembly for both:

DHT used a common engine/pump assembly for these two splitter models, with a Kohler SH265 engine and the 13 GPM two-stage pump.

Two-Stage Pump Performance

A two-stage hydraulic pump is particularly well suited to log splitters because it automatically provides two operating ranges.

During relatively easy portions of the cylinder stroke, the pump provides higher hydraulic flow for faster movement. As resistance increases during splitting, the pump transitions to its lower-flow, higher-pressure stage.

This allows a log splitter to combine:

• Faster cylinder travel
• Higher available splitting pressure
• Efficient use of a small gasoline engine
• Good overall cycle performance

The replacement pump is rated at 13 GPM at a maximum operating speed of 3,600 RPM.

Original DHT Pump & Coupler Configuration

The DHT service documentation identifies the following components in the original 22- and 27-ton pump assembly:

• 100158 – 13 GPM, 2-stage hydraulic pump
• 100397 – L090 jaw coupler, 1/2" bore, pump side
• 100124 – L090 jaw spider
• 100398 – L090 jaw coupler, 3/4" bore, engine side
• 100016 – Pump mount, 92mm bolt circle

Pump Rotation

When viewing the pump shaft and mounting surface, the pump shaft rotates clockwise.

The driving engine therefore needs to rotate in the corresponding opposite direction when viewed toward its output shaft so that the assembled pump rotates correctly.

Always verify rotation before operating the hydraulic system. Running a hydraulic gear pump in the wrong direction can prevent proper oil flow and may damage the pump.

This is an aftermarket replacement pump and is not manufactured by Dirty Hand Tools.  This listing is specifically intended for replacement of DHT part number 100158 on the following Dirty Hand Tools splitters:

• 22 Ton – Model 100171
• 27 Ton – Model 100408

Before ordering, verify the model number of your splitter and compare your existing pump configuration. DHT produced multiple splitter sizes that used different hydraulic pumps.

For example, the DHT parts manual identifies the 28- and 35-ton models as using a different 17.5 GPM pump, part number 100479, rather than the 100158 pump used on the 22- and 27-ton machines.

This replacement should not be ordered for a DHT splitter simply because the machine looks similar. Verify the splitter model and original pump part number before purchase.
